August 2025 Monthly traffic update
• In August 2025 there was a total of 785k international passenger movements in the month, a 1% increase compared to the same month in 2024. Excluding transits, international passenger movements for the month of August 2025 increased by 2%. International seat capacity increased 4% on the same month last year resulting in average load factors of 78%, a 1.9 percentage point decline on the year prior;
• Passenger numbers and seat capacity on the short-haul international network increased by 3% and 7% respectively on the prior year with average load factors declining by 3.2 percentage points to 78%. Passenger numbers, seat capacity and average load factors of 78% on the long-haul international network were at similar levels to the same month in the prior year;
• Domestic passenger movements increased by 6% in the month of August 2025 when compared to the same month in the prior year with seat capacity increasing 6%, resulting in flat year on year load factors at 84%. Domestic growth was attributable to increases on the domestic trunk with passengers and seat capacity increasing by 8% year on year with load factors of 84%. The Auckland to Wellington route has experienced three straight months of year on year passenger increases with passengers on the route increasing by 3% during August 2025, albeit 7% below August 2023 levels; and
• Queenstown Airport international passenger numbers in August 2025 increased 8% on the year prior and domestic passengers increased 7% on the same month last year. International passenger numbers reached another new all-time high with 106k in one month.
